Organic Müesli

For your enjoyment and the health of people & nature.
We’re proud to have been making our original organic Birchermüesli since 1959.

We’re proud of bio-familia’s status as an organic pioneer!

  • We launched the first organic convenience Birchermüesli under the familia brand in 1959. At that time, organically grown fruit and grains were still in short supply – which is why we supported production through cultivation contracts. These partnerships with Swiss organic farms continue to this day.
  • Our organic Müeslis stand for enjoyment and the health of people and nature – whether they’re sweetened with nothing but fruit (such as our Original Birchermüesli and Organic Aronia Müesli) or finished off with a little sugar, like our two new gluten-free organic crunchy Müeslis.
  • We support the health of nature via various projects, are committed to enhancing biodiversity, obtain 100% of our electricity from hydropower and promote regenerative agriculture.

A brief guide to organic Birchermüesli

What is Birchermüesli?

Dr Bircher-Benner was a Swiss doctor who shaped the philosophy of wholesome nutrition. Under this approach, the aim is to eat as much raw food and as many wholemeal products as possible. His own Birchermüesli recipe, which he developed and named after himself, saw him achieve remarkable success when treating his patients.

Birchermüesli – a global success with its roots in Switzerland
When the first original organic Birchermüesli was sold in Switzerland in 1959, few people outside the country had ever heard the word ‘Müesli’. This quickly changed, however, when familia Original Birchermüesli started being exported to many countries just a few years later, and the Swiss term ‘Müesli’ (or ‘Müsli’ or ‘Muesli’) was adopted worldwide.

And what exactly does ‘organic’ signify?
Organic means that products are cultivated naturally, without the use of artificial or chemical substances. The soil is not exploited and agriculture can take place sustainably. However, organic farming generates smaller crop yields – and therefore the price is higher. Live more consciously, enjoy more consciously. The ingredients in Müesli certified by bio.inspecta AG and holding the Knospe accreditation are guaranteed to be organic.
