Our valuable raw materials
Ever since 1959, we have been using nothing but the best natural raw materials for our products. Whether organic or conventional – we process all our ingredients with the utmost care. As pioneers of organic farming in Switzerland, we have been promoting organic farming from the outset by entering into long-term purchase guarantees for grains and fruit. Our suppliers assure us of the highest quality, so that every familia Müesli – now and in the future – contains only the best natural ingredients.
What makes the ingredients in familia Müesli so special
Inspired by Dr Bircher-Benner
Our recipes are based on the ideas of Dr Bircher-Benner, a Swiss doctor and the inventor of the original Birchermüesli. Of course, we now adapt our selection of raw materials to the latest nutritional findings and the needs of the market.
Sustainably produced hazelnuts
All familia Müesli only contains hazelnuts that are Happy Hazelnut certified. With this commitment, we contribute to making hazelnut cultivation in Turkey more sustainable, to improving the working conditions of harvest workers and to preventing child labour.
In-house hazelnut and almond roasting facility
We roast our hazelnuts and almonds ourselves using the traditional method to develop their full flavour. They are rich in valuable monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are retained during roasting and the subsequent hand-sorting process – before being shown off to perfection in our Müesli blends.
Wholegrain – the whole grain for your well-being
We use whole grains in our Müesli whenever possible. Whole grain means that both the fibre-rich bran and the nutrient-rich germ are retained. These components contribute to good digestion, keep you fuller for longer and provide important nutrients such as vitamin E, B vitamins, magnesium, calcium and iron.
Apples for fresh and fruity Müesli
Our apple pieces, often with the peel on, are valuable sources of fibre. Organic apple pieces are not sulphur-treated and therefore have a natural brownish colour.
Natural sweetness from fruit
The different fruits give our Müesli its natural sweetness, along with a varied appearance and flavour.
Our most important grains
Oats
Oats are an ancient grain that is particularly native to Scandinavia. They keep you full and are high in protein, high-quality oil and important minerals such as magnesium and iron. Oats also contain a significant amount of the natural dietary fibre beta-glucan, Oats also contain a significant amount of the natural dietary fibre beta-glucan,
Dr Bircher-Benner’s original recipe only uses oats.
Spelt
Spelt is the prototypical ancient grain. It is easy to cultivate and frequently grown organically. Spelt is a special type of grain because it is an excellent source of protein and essential amino acids. Compared with wheat, it contains impressive amounts of minerals and essential fatty acids.
Barley
Barley is mainly used for animal feed, malting and beer production. We use it in our Müesli – in the form of barley flakes – to help keep you full.
Wheat
Wheat is the typical bread-making grain in our part of the world. It also forms the basis for most pasta products. This low-fat grain contains a large amount of gluten (protein), which is important for its baking properties. Wholegrain wheat flour is rich in fibre and is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals.
bio-familia is committed to regenerative agriculture in partnership with the Agricultura Regeneratio association. Under this approach, Swiss farms are encouraged to grow grains in a regenerative way.
