Heart buns

Preparation time: approx. 50 minutes

Makes around 12 buns


300 g flour

25 g yeast

50 g sugar

½ tsp salt

1 egg

100 ml milk

70 g butter, softened

2 apples (approx. 320 g)

1 lemon (juice)

220 g familia crunchy müesli (e.g. Choco Crunch)

1 tbsp lemon juice

5 tbsp icing sugar


  1. Dough: Combine all the ingredients to form a soft dough and knead until smooth. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for around 3 hours until it doubles in size.
  2. Filling: Peel, halve and core the apples. Use a cheese grater to grate the apples. Immediately mix the grated apples with the lemon juice. Then combine the mixture with the Choco Crunch.
  3. Roll the dough out to form a rectangle measuring roughly 30 x 40 cm. Spread the filling across the dough, then roll the dough inwards from both sides to the centre. Cut the dough into 3 cm slices, place the buns on two baking sheets, and shape them into hearts. Let the dough rise again for another 20 minutes.
  4. Bake the buns in an oven that has been preheated to 180°C (convection) for approx. 25 minutes. To make the glaze, combine the lemon juice and icing sugar. Brush the glaze onto the hearts while they are still warm, then let them cool on a wire cooling rack.
